GAMBLEAWARE RAISES CONCERNS OF GAMBLING PREVALENCE IN ‘MOST DEPRIVED AREAS’
his conclusion came as the charity revealed its commissioned Patterns of Play study, carried out by researchers from NatCen and Professor David Forrest and Professor Ian McHale, from the University of Liverpool.
The data from the research includes 139,152 online gambling accounts provided by seven major operators between July 2018 and June 2019 and includes products such as slots, casino and bingo games.
“This research adds to the growing body of evidence showing that harms from gambling are falling disproportionately on the most deprived communities,” stated Zoë Osmond, CEO, GambleAware.

Why Gambling Is Such An Integral Part Of Australian Culture
The 2014/2015 edition of gambling industries report issued by the Australasian Gaming Council concluded that, on average, Australians spend roughly $1,172.14 AUD ($837 USD at the time of writing) per year on gambling. In comparison, an average Irish individual only spends $600 and an American individual spends roughly $400 in the same time period.
In terms of popularity, video poker machines are the go-to sub-genre of choice, which Australians also refer to as “pokies”. In fact, more than half of money spent on gambling in Australia goes to these machines. It’s estimated Australia has more of them than the entire Las Vegas combined. Sports betting, lotteries, and racing follow right behind.

Gambling addiction support groups urge tighter regulation of online casinos
Groups supporting people who have become addicted to online gambling are calling on the Japanese government to tighten regulations for overseas operators.
The four groups told reporters last week that online casinos allow people to make money quickly and they can be accessed around the clock.
They said that's why people are highly likely to get hooked on such casinos, and more of them are contacting the groups for consultations.
Japan's penal code bans gambling in the country. But Japanese laws and regulations do not cover online casinos because the operators are based in other parts of the world where gambling is legal.
